Stefan Weiers
Deputy Head of Unit Directorate General for Research and Innovation
Stefan Weiers is working with the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation as the Deputy Head of the Unit ‘Spreading excellence and Widening Participation’ in charge of developing synergies between Horizon 2020 and European Structural and Investment Funds and for the Widening actions in Horizon 2020 contributing to closing the innovation divide. During the 7th Framework Programme he was the manager of the programmes Regions of Knowledge and Research Potential. He has 20 year experience in European research co-operation including the SME programme, environmental and space research. He graduated in Physical Geography at the University of Bonn and holds a PhD. in natural sciences.
